Sri Kulasekhara Swamy Temple-Siddhamalli

I am very happy to inform you all that the Maha Kumbabishekam of the ancient Temple of Sri Kulasekhara Swamy in Siddhamalli is scheduled to be held on 08-04-2012, Sunday.  All are welcome to attend this auspicious function and get the Blessings of Sri Kulasekhara Swamy and His consort Sri Abhirami.

It is really note-worthy to say that the present Kumbabishekam is being conducted nearly after 200 years!  Hence to witness this rare, very auspicious and sacred event, all are invited to make this Maha Kumbabishekam a grand success and also to get the Holy Blessings of Lord Kulasekhara.

Here is a small note on this ancient Temple in Siddhamalli:

On the Mannargudi-Muthupettai route [Tiruvarur district] is Siddhamalli, where there is a Siva temple dedicated to Sri Kulasekara Swami with consort Abhirami. Built by the Cholas, it is in a dilapidated condition. Said to have been built by Kulasekara Pandian in the 11th century [also attributed to Rajaraja, III] Siddhamalli is mentioned in an inscription.

How did the village get its name? The presence of siddhars once upon a time is an explanation. Another relates to the Mahabahrata. During their exile, the Pandavas arrived here dispirited and confused. Peace and clarity came after worshipping at the Kulasekara Swami temple.
The temple that once reverberated with the chanting of Veda mantra and devotees' prayer is desolate now. Scriptures speak of a washerman exclusively engaged in laundering the clothes used to adorn the deities. Vaikasi Visakham was celebrated with great fanfare. The Dhandayuthapani idol is a beauty. There are niches for Meenakshi and Sundareswarar, Sri Dakshinamurti, Sri Bhairavar and so on. But now there is no fund to do daily pujas.
To bring back the lost glory of this temple, so full richness, Siddhamalli residents have joined hands to renovate the temple. Work that started last year and has been  progressing at a medium pace, which was due to some earlier disputes.  The temple Thiruppani work is  now nearing completion and is getting ready for the Maha-Kumbabhishekam this month.

The village of Siddhamalli also holds a lot of significance for the following reason:

Adjacent to the temple is the Adishtanam of Sri Subramania Sastrigal Yatheendraal  a great scholar. A disciple of Mahamahopadyaya Raju Sastri, Yatheendraal was one of the several pandits who trained Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati in Vedas, Upanishads and vyakarnam when he took over as the 68th pontiff of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. An ardent devotee of Paramacharya, Sri Yatindra looked after the administrative affairs of the Math. A trusted lieutenant of the sage, the latter commended him for his deep knowledge. He called him Eka Sandgrahi [after a single reading or hearing he could recall verbatim the contents] referring to his exceptional memory. Later, on Sri Yatheendraal's request, Paramacharya bestowed him Abadsanyasam.

Sri Subramania Yatheendraal-Siddhamalli

On November 9, 1933, Subramania  Sastrigal Yatheendraal attained samadhi. His body was buried on the western side of Sri Kulasekara Swami temple and the Adishtanam became a place of worship. Every year annual prayers and Homage [Aradhana] is celebrated in a grand manner  in this village.

This year, the Siddhamalli Periavaa's 79th Aradhana festival at His Athishtanam Siddhamalli village, will be celebrated with full rituals and Homam on 4.11.2012 SUNDAY On 3.11.2012 religious Discourse about the Mahan and Discussions about PERIAVAAL's anugrahas and the meaning of Apasthamba Sanyasa Yoga will be held.

Chanting Sri Rudram,Chamakam Mantrapushpams and slokas in Thaithreeya Upanishad[the favourite Upanishad of PERIAVAA] will be recited.

All devotees, disciples and bhakthas are kindly requested to come to Siddhamalli, the Divya kshetra of Siddhamalli Periavaa for getting HIS Holy Blessings !
